On April 25, 2023, Beijing Guoan lost 1-3 to Qingdao Hainiu on the road in the third round of the Ping An Chinese Super League 2023 season. Beijing Guoan fell behind Qingdao Hainiu 0-1 after they took the lead with a penalty kick in the 10th minute of the first half. Qingdao Hainiu extended the lead with a long-distance shot in the 26th minute. In the 46th minute of the second half, Qingdao Hainiu relied on counter-attacks to break through the goal again, and Beijing Guoan fell behind 0-3. In the 50th minute of the match, De Souza took advantage of a corner kick and scored a goal from the top of the box. Finally, Beijing Guoan lost to Qingdao Hainiu 1-3.
