In a recent interview, Rodrigo Sanchez, who moved from Real Betis to Doha Arabs this summer, expressed his dissatisfaction with his time at Real Betis, as well as his expectations for the future.
Rodri first made it clear: "I don't regret leaving Real Betis this summer. I am still very young and I believe that better opportunities and bigger stages will of course still be open to me as long as I am able to prove myself as the best player in my new environment."
He further revealed his helplessness when he was at Real Betis: "I feel that I was given so few opportunities at Real Betis. Over the years, I've been positioned in the team only as a substitute. As soon as Isco came in, he started, which I can understand, but Fekir just recovered from injury and immediately started again, which is really too unfair for me. The year before I had more appearances, played 20+ starts and did well. But last season, I had so little playing time that I don't think I deserved just that little bit of playing time."
Rodri also recalled some of the details of the transfer process: "During my transfer negotiations with Mallorca, the club told me that they would inform me if I wanted to continue training. Coach Pellegrini came over and asked me what the club had told me, and I said that the club hadn't made a clear statement yet, so as a professional I would continue to train. The next day, Pellegrini told me: 'I'm also just an employee of the team, but from my point of view, I don't want the club to sell you to Mallorca. I don't think you should go, but if you make a decision or the club is determined to sell you, then I won't stand in the way much.'"
Despite his dissatisfaction with his playing time at Real Betis, Rodri still expressed his gratitude to the club and the coach, "Of course I'm very grateful to Real Betis and to Coach Pellegrini, who made me a professional. I always wish them all the best."
