At the end of the 13th century, the Poznans built a wall on the left bank of the Warta River. Since then, Poznań has seen invasions by the Swedes and a century or so of Prussian rule, and was the first capital of the Kingdom of Poland. It was the first capital of the Kingdom of Poland, and the "Poznań Affair" (Poznań workers' strike), which broke out at the end of June 1958, made Poznań an important part of the history of Poland's gradual departure from the control of the former Soviet Union.
The team was founded and started playing officially from the third domestic league. After a long period of development and war, Poznań Lech became one of the top league clubs in China at the end of the 1950's. In 1982, the club won its first national championship trophy (Polish Cup), and in 1983 it won the first top league trophy in the country.
Although the club went through many relegations and financial crises, the team still became one of the best in Poland. Former Ballon d'Or winner Lewandowski became one of the most famous players in the club's history. Lewan joined Poznań Lech in the summer of 2008 and helped the team to win three trophies in two years (League, Cup and Super Cup).
Levine landed at Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2010 for a transfer fee of just €4.8 million, thanks to his impressive performances at Lech Poznan.

Poznan Lech lost the penalty shootout 4-5 in two rounds against Spanish giants Barcelona, where the team drew 1-1 at home in the first round against Barcelona, coached by the late legendary Dutch coach José Cruyff.
Poznan Lech missed out on the Champions League this season after losing 2-5 to Azerbaijani champions Qarabag in the first round of qualifying.

The team's legendary striker Piotr Reis made 344 appearances, scoring 117 goals and 68 assists, helping the team to win two Polish Cups and a Polish Super Cup, as well as winning the league's Golden Boot in the 2006/07 season.
Raes grew up in youth training in Lech, Poznań, and worked for many years in the German league, helping Hertha Berlin win the German League Cup in 2002. Reis played four times for the Polish national team, scoring one goal, but did not play at the World Championship. Reis retired from playing in Poznan Lech in the summer of 2013.
