Kroos was born on January 4, 1990 in Mecklenburg-Former Pomeranian Greifswald. He has a younger brother, Felix Kroes, who is also a former professional soccer player and currently works as an assistant U-19 coach at Union Berlin. His father, Roland, worked as a youth coach for Hansa Rostock. As a youngster, he was a mediocre student who spent a lot of time practicing soccer, but he did well in the classroom and was well liked by his peers at school.
Cross married his longtime girlfriend Jessica Farber on June 13, 2015, after a long relationship. They have two sons and a daughter. He owns a house in Majorca, Spain.
Kroos also follows the NBA, rooting for the Dallas Mavericks, and he personally loves fellow German basketball superstar Nowitzki.
