Born in Les Sylles, Essonne, Henri showed great potential as a goal scorer during his time with the regional clubs and was instantly recognized by Monaco in 1990, making his professional debut in 1994. His outstanding performances earned him a place in the national team, and in 1998 he was called up to play in the World Cup. He then moved to Juventus, but his time as a winger for the club was not as successful as he would have liked and he moved to Arsenal for £10.5 million. Arsenal became Henry's place of fame. Although he didn't quite fit in at the beginning, his performances skyrocketed after that, and he was the team's top scorer in almost every season. After working with his mentor Arsene Wenger, he became a superb goal scorer, scoring 228 goals during his time at Arsenal. He also won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups for the Gunners, was twice runner-up for the World Footballer of the Year and was named England's Footballer of the Year three times. In his last two seasons at Arsenal, he captained the team and led them to the 2006 UEFA Champions League final.
In June 2007, he moved to Barcelona for 24 million euros, and in 2009, as the center of gravity of the team, Henry won La Liga, the Spanish Cup and the UEFA Champions League, becoming the Triple Crown. Together with the Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup, he achieved six titles. Henry was also named to the UEFA Team of the Year five times. 2010 saw him join Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls, where he helped them win the East Coast Division. 2012 saw him return to Arsenal on a two-month loan deal, and in 2013 he helped the New York Red Bulls to win the regular season title. 2013 also saw him announce that he would be hanging up his boots on December 1, 2014, bringing an end to a 20-year career in soccer.
