Everton goalkeeper Begovic recently responded to Liverpool legend Souness' scathing criticism aimed at England's star goalkeeper Pickford, according to talkSPORT.
Souness and the talkSPORT pundit were sharply critical of Pickford at the start of the year, comparing him to a "ticking time bomb" and accusing him of reckless behavior on the pitch. Souness pointed out that Pickford often waved his finger and pointed at his teammates after making saves, arguing that goalkeepers should act like referees and allow the game to flow rather than being the center of attention. He emphasized that top goalkeepers should remain calm and not draw too much attention to themselves during the game, and Pickford does not seem to meet that criteria.
However, Begovic strongly disagreed with Souness' criticism. He believes that Souness' words are unfounded and emphasized that he has been watching Pickford play for three years, working with him on a daily basis, and is well aware of his personal qualities. Begovic insisted that Pickford is a world-class keeper and that he has witnessed Pickford's excellence on the field of play, and that the two men have developed a deep friendship and mutual respect for each other.
Begovic also mentioned that Pickford has grown significantly in recent years and is now in the prime of his career. He believes that it is crucial for goalkeepers to control their emotions, and how they face challenges, avoid mistakes, and withstand pressure are all key measures of their level. Begovic thought Souness' words were too harsh and even extreme, while Pickford has matured a lot now.
