In a recent interview, Tuchel elaborated on the topic that he will be coaching England. He made it clear that coaching England is not a gamble, but based on clear goals and planning.
Talking about his coaching prospects after the 2026 World Cup, Tuchel said it depends on the circumstances. He emphasized that coaching England was not a spur-of-the-moment or blind decision, but a well-considered choice. Tuchel noted that they have now clarified the reasons and goals for coaching and are willing to discuss them openly and transparently to that end.
Tuchel believes that the success or otherwise of coaching England should be judged after the coaching task is completed. If both parties believe that the cooperation has failed to achieve the desired goals, then it will not continue; while if the cooperation is successful, then it will continue to move forward. He emphasized that the future is full of uncertainty, but taking over the England team is something he thinks is absolutely right.
Tuchel also said that he now feels clear enough to explain why he chose to coach England. He believes that if something is easy to explain then this usually means it is positive. He emphasized that coaching England requires honesty and openness, and that they are willing to set the record straight and then set standards, clear values and principles.
Finally, Tuchel pointed out that they must practice these standards and principles within 18 months. He believed that through the joint efforts and perseverance of both parties, England would be able to achieve better results in future competitions.
