On May 28, 2019, Xavi became the coach of Sadd Sports Club in the Qatar League on a 2-year deal. He led the team to the semifinals of the AFC Champions League that year, losing 5-6 on aggregate to Riyadh Crescent. In the Qatar League, the team finished the season in third place. The team also won the Qatar Cup for the 19-20 season.
In 97 games at the helm of Sadd, he helped the team win seven trophies, and in November 2021, after paying a buyout clause in his contract, he announced that he was leaving Sadd and would return to FC Barcelona as its new manager.
On January 27, 2024, after a 3-5 loss to Villarreal, Barcelona had fallen 10 points behind league leaders Real Madrid, and Xavi announced that he would step down as Barcelona manager at the end of the season.
