After starting for the Atlético Gijón youth team in his first season, he was promoted to the Atlético Gijón B team the following year. On July 8, 2013, Barcelona officially announced Villa's transfer to La Liga powerhouse Atletico Madrid for a super-low price of 5.1 million euros, with an annual salary of 5.1 million euros after tax. Villa will wear the No. 9 jersey left by Radamel Falcao to fill the vacancy left by Falcao, and he and Diego Costa form the front line combination of the Bedlam Army in the new season.
After a big season with Atletico Madrid, it was difficult for the 33-year-old Villa to make another mark with the La Liga champions.
