Henderson's playing days
Jordan Henderson made his first team debut as a reserve in the November 1, 2008 visit to Chelsea. He then made his home debut and first team debut in the League Cup against Blackburn Rovers. In January 2009, Henderson spent a month on loan at Championship club Coventry, making his debut in a 1-2 loss to Derby County. His loan was extended until May 3 due to his performances, and he scored his first goal against Norwich City on February 29, 2009, before being sent back to Sunderland on April 8 due to injury.
Henderson has always been the prey of Manchester United, the then Sunderland manager Alex Brookes and the then Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson had praised Henderson many times, thus making the rumors of Henderson's transfer to the Red Devils even more heated. Although Henderson's best position is as a center forward, he can also play in various positions in midfield, including right midfield and in front of the back, and his accurate long-distance passing has been described by many media as the successor of Scores and Beckham.
On June 9, 2011, the Reds managed to secure Henderson's consent to join the club for approximately £16 million, signing what was described as a "long-term" deal.
In July 2023, Saudi Professional Football League club Ittifaq successfully acquired Henderson for £12 million, ending a 12-year bingo relationship with the Reds.
On January 18, 2024, Henderson signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Dutch First Division club Ajax to return to Europe.
