Seaman started his career at Leeds United, but he was not recognized by Eddie Gray, the manager of the team at the time. He moved to Peterborough United of the First Division for a fee of £4,000, and two years later, in October 1984, Birmingham of the Second Division paid a £100,000 transfer fee to take him on. Birmingham were promoted to the First Division that season, but were relegated back to the Second Division after one season, but Seaman was not relegated with the team.
In August 1986, 1 month after the birth of his second son, Seaman moved to Queens Park Rangers for £225,000 and made his 1st start for the England national soccer team in the November 1988 tournament against Saudi Arabia.
In 1990, towards the close of the transfer market, 1989 league champions Arsenal wanted to bring Seaman back to Highbury, but the deal collapsed on the condition that they wanted to borrow Arsenal's goalkeeper John Luchko, who was unwilling to play for Queens Park Rangers.
At the end of the season, Arsenal leader George Graham wanted to rope in Seaman again and quoted a record-breaking £1.3 million transfer fee for an England keeper, which eventually brought Seaman to Arsenal.
In June 2003, Seaman joined Manchester City as a free agent and became a member of the famous manager Keegan's staff. However, his career at City did not last long, as Seaman suffered a rather serious injury. Even after recovering from this injury, Seaman was no longer the manager's first choice. Finally, in January 2004, Seaman announced his retirement due to a shoulder injury.
