Sterling has represented England at U-16 and U-17 youth level. He is also eligible to opt to play for his birthplace, Jamaica. And his mother, Nadine, has already stated that she would like to see Sterling will take the field for Jamaica on international duty.
Sterling was named in the England squad for the 2011 U-17 FIFA World Cup. He scored a long range goal in the opening match against Rwanda in Pachuca to give England a 2-0 win. He also scored the equalizer against Argentina in the Round of 16 to give England a 4-2 victory in the penalty shootout.
In 2018, Sterling was called up by England for the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament. That edition saw England end their World Cup tour with a hall of fame finish.
In May 2021, Sterling was once again called up by England to play in the 2020 UEFA European Championships. Sterling scored the only goal of the tournament against Croatia and the Czech Republic in the first and third matches of the group stage to lead his team to the knockout stage. He also scored the first goal in the 75th minute against Germany in the knockout stage of the quarter-finals, leading the team to a 2:0 victory and advancing to the last eight of the tournament. Although England lost to Italy 2-3 on penalties in the final of the Euro 2020 soccer championships and finished as runners-up, Stalin's performance was still remarkable. However, Stalin's performance was still outstanding and he was honored as the Official Team of the EURO 2020.
