In this edition of International Match Day, Sergio Gomez, who was selected for the Spanish adult national team for the first time, was interviewed, reflecting on his national team journey and looking forward to the future.
Gomez said, "I am very grateful to the national team for giving me this opportunity, which has been given to me at all levels of the national youth teams since I was a child. I didn't feel any problems adapting to being selected for the adult national team this time around, as I've played at all levels of the national youth teams in Spain, slept in the same rooms and trained at the same bases."
He continued, "I've had a good start to the season, I've been helping the team as much as I can and performing well in all positions. But I think it's more important to play as a team than as an individual, and I wouldn't be entirely happy if I was the only one playing well and the team was not. Real Sociedad's form has picked up recently and we are on the right path."
Gomez also mentioned, "Real Sociedad has had a number of players selected for the national youth or national teams at all levels in recent years, which enhances the reputation of the team and is good for the players. It boosts the players' confidence and allows us to bring our best when we return to the club."
Finally, Gomez said that he is actively preparing for the match against Girona: "Girona had an average start, but Michel has the ability to change things. Both teams are ambitious and I'm sure it will be a good game. I also hope to get my first goal of the season in the game, we have to score more goals to win more."
