On the morning of May 27, 2024, Beijing Shougang Basketball Club held a mobilization meeting for the men's basketball team to gather and prepare for the new season at the Shougang Sports Building, announcing that Xu Limin, a senior coach of the club and a member of the Chinese Basketball Hall of Fame, would take up the position of head coach of the men's basketball team for the new season. Former Chinese men's basketball head coach Li Nan joined the coaching team as a technical advisor.
Xu Limin joined the Beijing men's basketball team as a player in 1995, and after retiring in 1997, he served as the head coach of the second team of the Beijing women's basketball team and the assistant coach of the first team of the Beijing men's basketball team. 2005, he became the head coach of the first team of the Beijing women's basketball team, and led the team to three titles in the Women's Chinese Basketball League (WCBA). 2017 Xu Limin took over as the head coach of the China Women's Basketball Team, and led the team to the championship of the Asian Games in 2018, Asian Cup in 2019, and runner-up in the 2021 Women's Basketball Asian Cup.
