The 2024 UEFA Cup has a new format as follows:
Teams: 36 teams are participating in the competition. Some of them are directly promoted to the main round through the domestic results channel, including 7 teams from the Association Cup winners ranked 1-7 in the UEFA Club Ranking and 5 teams from the fifth team in the league ranked 1-5 in the UEFA Club Ranking (postponed according to the Champions League qualification rankings); some of them are eliminated through the UEFA Champions League qualification round, including 5 teams eliminated in the final round of Champions League Pathway qualification, 4 teams eliminated in the third round of League Pathway qualification and 2 teams eliminated in the final round; and some of them are promoted through the UEFA Cup qualification round with 12 places. There is also a group of teams eliminated through the Champions League qualification round, including five teams eliminated in the final round of the Champions League pathway qualification round, four teams eliminated in the third round of the league pathway qualification round and two teams eliminated in the final round; and a group of teams that qualify through the UEFA Cup qualification round, for a total of 12 places.
League stage:
Schedule: 36 teams are ranked together and each team plays 8 different teams, 4 home and 4 away, for a total of 8 games per team.
Points rule: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw.
Advancement: At the end of the league stage, the top 8 teams will advance directly to the 1/8 finals.
Knockout Round Playoffs: Teams ranked 9-24 will play a two-round playoff to determine the remaining eight spots for the 1/8 finals. Of these, teams ranked 9 - 16 are seeded to face teams ranked 17 - 24. Seeded teams will be "first past the post" with the winner of the two-legged play-in game advancing to the 1/8 finals.
Knockout stage: Starting with the Round of 16, the existing knockout system will be followed. In the two rounds, if the total score is the same, extra time will be played, and if there is still no winner in the extra time, penalty kicks will be played.
Drawing Rules:
In the league stage, the principle of "same country avoidance" is followed, i.e. you cannot play a team from the same association as yourself; at the same time, you can only be drawn against a maximum of two teams from the same association.
