Everton beat Ipswich 2-0 in the 8th round of the EPL on October 19th. After the match, Everton manager Sean Dyche was interviewed and spoke highly of his team's performance and expressed his views on the controversial penalties in the previous match.
Dyche said that he was very happy with his team's performance. He felt that Everton excelled in many areas and that the attack was very effective and managed to pick up the three points, making it eight points from the team's last four matches. Dyche emphasized that Everton controlled the game well, especially considering that their opponents, Ipswich, were excellent last season, but Everton, with a more experienced team, were reflected in the way they managed the game.
He mentioned that although Everton have had a few slip-ups this season, the formation was good today and the players gave their all to get back and scored two very satisfactory goals. Dyche felt that Everton created many chances in the game and could have led by more.
Speaking about how he had lost a 2-0 lead earlier, Dyche said that Everton managed to hold on for the win today, which is starting to show positive signs. He admitted that the team still has a lot of work to do, but once again showed that Everton are a good team. Never short of confidence in his players and staff, Dyche believes that the team has not strayed too far at the start of the season, and although they have experienced a few twists and turns, they are learning from them.
Regarding the penalty that Ipswich had overturned in the game, Dyche said that Everton just wanted the referee to be consistent in his decision making. He mentioned that Everton's Llewyn had a penalty chance against Newcastle but the referee didn't call it and Dyche thought it was a penalty at the time. However, if the referee had been consistent then he would have had no problem with today's call. Since that penalty for Llewyn was not awarded, then the one for Ipswich should not have been awarded either, and it did turn out to be so.
