Dec. 5 -- Former Japan women's soccer international Maruyama tweeted that she felt Japan could win the Women's World Cup after Spain won the tournament after Japan beat Germany.
Kurina Maruyama wrote: "I don't know why, but I have this feeling that Japan can win the championship. I don't know why, I have this feeling."
After being rebutted by Japanese netizens, Maruyama Katarina added:
"It's sad that if I say myself that we might win the title, some people will say we can't and so on. I bet they don't know how the players feel and hope. If Japan do win, they will make a fuss. All players want to win! There are no players who don't aim for the title."
Japan will face Croatia in the 1/8 knockout round tonight at 23:00 GMT.
