Wu Chengshu, who transferred to Canberra United from Jiangsu Women's Football Team, said in an interview with Xinhua on Nov. 28 that he decided to study abroad.
Wu Chengshu said, "(The decision to play overseas) was because at the time, after playing the Asian Cup, I felt that when Tang Jiali came back from the UK, I felt that she fought against social media in all aspects and was stronger than before. I thought I could go out and try."
"It's a big step in my career, I think it's stepping out of my comfort zone and then it's going to be a big step forward. (In the first season) hopefully I can help the team get better and score more goals."
"(Overseas experience for national team mates) is also for the betterment of the future and to keep up with the European (teams), who have improved a lot. I think (playing in the Australian Super League) will also be an early adaptation to next year's (World Cup) venues, the playing environment and so on, which will also be more conducive to World Cup (preparation). National team coach Shui Qingxia wants me to adapt to the environment here as soon as possible, the team and then also wants me to improve my defense."
"(Looking back to 2022) was a year where I felt a turning point in my soccer career. Everyone has done so well at the Asian Cup and it has been a special year."
