Olivier Giroud is a French professional footballer who currently plays as a striker for Los Angeles FC in the USL.Giroud announced his retirement from the France national soccer team after UEFA EURO 2024.He overtook Arsenal's Thierry Henry as the French national team's all-time leading goal scorer on December 4, 2022 against Poland in the knockout rounds of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Giroud started his career at Grenoble in the French Ligue 2 before moving to Douas in 2008. The following season, he was the top scorer in Ligue 2 with 21 goals, and was recognized by French Ligue 1 side Montpellier, to whom he transferred.In the 2011-12 season, Giroud was the top scorer in Ligue 1 with 21 goals, and helped win the team's first ever league title.In 2012, he moved to English Premier League club Arsenal, winning the 2014 2015 and 2017 FA Cup titles. Giroud is one of seven players in Arsenal's history to have scored 50 or more goals in the Premier League.
In terms of the national team, Giroud first became a member of the France national soccer team in 2011, and has so far been named in France's squad for the UEFA European Championships in 2012, the World Cup in 2014, the UEFA European Championships in 2016, the FIFA World Cup in 2018, and the FIFA World Cup in 2022; and has won the Bronze Boot award at the UEFA European Championships in 2016.
