Lloris was officially selected for the national team in 2008. His first international match was a friendly against Uruguay on November 19, 2008, which was a draw.
On February 28, 2012, Lloris officially became captain of the French national team.
In France's 5-0 friendly win over Paraguay on June 2, 2017, Lloris officially surpassed Barthez as the goalkeeper with the most appearances for France.
Lloris made his 100th appearance for the national team in the 1-0 group stage win over Peru in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He also made a number of brave saves against Uruguay and Belgium and led France to lift the Copa Libertadores once again.
On May 18, 2021, Lloris was named to the France squad for the 2020 UEFA Nations Cup.
On January 9, 2023, Loris announced his retirement from the national team.
