In a recent interview with the Japanese media, Barcelona midfielder Frankie de Jong expressed his deep feelings for Barcelona and his expectations for the future, while he also spoke highly of Japanese player Kubo Kenyoung.
De Jong began by talking about the importance of Barcelona's midfielders and what modern soccer requires from them. He said that technical ability is necessary for Barcelona's midfielders, but equally important is tactical understanding and speed when switching between offense and defense. He emphasized that modern soccer requires well-rounded players with both offensive and defensive abilities. De Jong also mentioned good midfielders such as Bellingham and McAllister and said he hopes to learn more from them.
Speaking about Barcelona's tactical style, de Jong said that although Barcelona may not be as "Barcelona-esque" as before, the team's stability in defense is the key. He believes that the biggest reason why Barcelona won the La Liga two seasons ago was that they conceded fewer goals. De Jong also mentioned the innovative tactics of Manchester City and Pep Guardiola, who have brought new elements to soccer.
Regarding his future, De Jong said that his personal goal is to play for Barcelona for as long as possible and hopes to experience the feeling of winning the Champions League one day. He admits that the soccer world is full of variables and it is impossible to predict the future direction, but he will try to contribute his strength to Barcelona.
Speaking about Japanese player Kubo Kenyoung, De Jong said he knows him well and considers him a special player. He appreciated Kubo Kenyoung's agility and turning ability to cut in from the flanks, as well as his speed and skill level. De Jong also revealed that he had exchanged jerseys with Kubo Kenyoung and cherished the experience. He believes that Kubo Kenyoung will continue to show his level of performance in league and European matches, and fight for the glory of Japanese soccer.
