Recently, Chelsea starlet Palmer was interviewed by The Telegraph, sharing his outlook on his career, his dream of winning the Golden Ball and his involvement in social welfare programs.
Speaking about his nine-year contract with Chelsea, Palmer said, "Chelsea is like home to me, I am totally focused on the club and its future and look forward to spending my entire career here." He is excited about what he has achieved at Chelsea and believes that the team can create more glory together.
Palmer was pleasantly surprised to be named on the shortlist for the Ballon d'Or and believes he has a chance to win the prestigious award through hard work and consistent performances. He revealed that his celebratory gesture was a tribute to City youth teammate Morgan Rogers and represented joy, passion and strong determination for the game.
Palmer also spoke about the change in position under Maresca, stating that playing in the middle of the park gives him more opportunities to influence the game and suits his style better. He admitted to being watched tighter and more confrontational this season, but focused on staying calm and using his skills to create space for himself.
Reflecting on his Euro experience, Palmer said the experience was priceless and that while he wished he had played more games, it was more important to contribute to the team. He revealed that he sometimes imagines scoring scenarios, but has always had a natural instinct to score goals.
On being left off Chelsea's UEFA Europa League roster, Palmer said he understands that the management's decision was made to protect his health, and that he is focused on staying fit and ready for his next opportunity. He revealed that he usually practices extra shooting and penalty kicks, but sometimes scoring goals just comes naturally.
Palmer also spoke about the influence of his idols Wayne Rooney and his grandfather Staley Cole, as well as what it's like to be involved in the Re-Kicks program to give back to the community. He said he has always been passionate about using his platform to give back to the community and that the Re-Kicks program, which supports young talent and promotes inclusivity in soccer, fits with his philosophy.
Finally, Palmer revealed that he initially wore Nike Mercurials sneakers and would probably use three to four pairs a season. He would replace them when they lost their grip or began to break down, and would donate the used shoes to charity or give them to young players who could use them. His ideal day starts with a good training session, spends time with his family and ends with a win in the evening with a great game.
