Curtis Jones scored a crucial goal as Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 at home in a nail-biting match in the 8th round of the Premier League and spoke to Sky Sports after the game.
Jones began by talking about the win, "Winning is the most important thing. Even though I was involved a lot in the game, the most important thing is that we won. This win was very important for our whole team."
Speaking about blocking Chelsea youngster Cole Palmer's shot, Jones said, "We know how important Cole Palmer is to them and we know he's scored a lot of goals. So, when I saw him with the ball, I had it in my mind to keep him quiet. I was fortunate to be able to successfully block his shot, which had a big impact on their pace of play."
On the first penalty call of the game, Jones insisted he didn't fake it: "I never fake anything. In that moment, I did feel contact from the other team and then I went down. The referee awarded the penalty and I think it was a penalty."
And on the second penalty being overturned, Jones said, "I didn't see that at the time. I know there was a collision between us, but I haven't looked back at the footage so I can't really comment on it. However, we will respect the referee's decision regardless of the outcome."
Speaking about his goal, Jones looked excited: "There have been a few times when I've entered the box and finished first time. This time, as soon as Salah got the ball, I started running. The ball bounced a little bit, so I had to adjust a little bit, and thank goodness it went in. The goal meant a lot to me and made me more confident."
