Podolski for Poland or Germany

Podolski's national team career

Podolski, who is eligible to play for either the German national soccer team or the Polish national soccer team, initially tried to put himself forward for Poland in 2003 but was rejected by then-Poland coach Janas, and he ended up playing for Germany.

His first major tournament of his career was Euro 2004, but he didn't get a chance, but after leading the Bundesliga in scoring at the age of 19 and leading Cologne back to the Bundesliga the next year, he was favored by Klinsmann, who was known for promoting late-comers, and began to get reused.

After Podolski was included in Germany's 2006 World Cup roster, he and Klose started all the matches with a two-striker lineup, and fought against Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Poland in their group, finally defeating a number of strong teams, but unfortunately, he was defeated by Italy in the quarterfinals stage and stopped in the quarterfinals, but he won the tournament for the first time the title of the best young player for the excellent results of the individual scored three goals, while Germany Germany became the third host to finish third after Chile and Italy.

The 2008 UEFA European Football Championship was the career masterpiece of his international campaign. Due to the poor pairing of the recent German Footballer of the Year, Görmez, with the star winger, Klose, the new coach, Löw, changed the formation from a 4-4-2 to a 4-2-3-1, and his new position was moved forward from the left midfield to the left winger. In the first match, Podolski scored two solo goals against his country of birth, Poland, to help Germany beat their opponents 2:0. However, he did not celebrate after scoring, but simply put his right hand on his chest. In the end, he delivered three goals and two assists in six matches to win the tournament's Silver Boot, and his team lost to Spain in the final.

He also started as a left winger in the 2010 World Cup, and performed moderately well, but not as well as before, especially in the second group stage of the cold 0:1 loss to Serbia in the game he missed many chances (even including a penalty kick) and was criticized, Germany finally again in the semifinals lost to the current champions of the Spain, back-to-back third-place finishes, his personal is six games out of the game, two goals and two assists. His performance at the club then declined due to a number of injuries, and he was replaced in the starting lineup by rising stars Özil, Reus, and Kroos, but continued to play with the team in three major tournaments, 2012, 2014, and 2016, where he won the 2014 World Cup, and only appeared in friendlies after Euro 2016, announcing his retirement from the national team in 2017.
