Which teams did Podolski play for?
In 2003, at the age of 18, Podolski was still part of the club's youth team. At the time, the club was struggling on the brink of relegation from the Bundesliga to Bundesliga 2. The first team manager, Marcel Koller, was short of funds and decided to give the young striker a chance to see if his performances merited promotion to the first team. Podolski was invited to participate in practice with the first team players. Despite Köln's relegation to Bundesliga 2, Podolski stayed on at the club and scored 24 goals to help the team return to the first division again. He was the first Bundesliga player since 1975 to be selected for the national team, and made his debut on June 6, 2004 as a reserve substitute against Hungary. He played for Germany in the 2004 UEFA European Championship, where he was the youngest player in the team, and also took part in the FIFA 2005 Confederations Cup, where he scored three goals.
German coach Jurgen Klinsmann highly praised his deadly head hammers and shots against opponents, and he is still very young. Because of this, German giants Bayern Munich officially acquired Podolski before the start of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, although his contract with Köln did not end until 2007. On June 1, 2006, Bayern officially acquired Podolski. His first Bundesliga game for Bayern was on August 11, 2006, when Bayern beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0. However, with the arrival of Italy's star striker Toure, who had just won the World Cup, and Klose, who was the Golden Boot winner of the World Cup, Podolski was unable to find a starting position at Bayern and therefore decided to leave the club.
In January 2009, Podolski confirmed that he would be returning to Köln and would officially join the club on July 1, 2009.
On April 30, 2012, FC Köln and Arsenal's official website announced that Podolski will officially join Arsenal in the 2012/2013 season, which was finalized in advance by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Podolski joined Arsenal's transfer, with Podolski donning the No. 9 jersey, but the transfer fee and the duration of the contract were not disclosed.
On January 5, 2015, Podolski was loaned by Arsenal to Serie A club Inter Milan until the end of the season.
