Griezmann's national team experience
Griezmann was overlooked by several coaches of the French youth national teams of different ages as he had been living in Spain since he was a child. It wasn't until he had a successful spell at Real Sociedad that on February 23, 2010, he made his debut in France U-19's two friendlies against Ukraine U-19's.
On June 7, 2010, Griezmann was selected by France U-19 coach Francis Smerecki to the eighteen-man squad for the 2010 UEFA European U-19 Football Championship. and France U-19 ended up winning the tournament as the host nation. He was also named the team's best player.
Griezmann began representing France U-20 as a result of France's victory at the European Under-19 Championships, which qualified France for the 2011 U-20 FIFA World Cup.On September 28, 2010, he was called up to play in a friendly against Portugal U-20 and the reserve team of Italian club Juventus.
On February 27, 2014, Griezmann was called up by France national soccer team coach Didier Deschamps for a friendly against the Netherlands at the Stade de France. He made his national team debut in the match on March 5, where he played 68 minutes to assist the national team in a 2:0 home win over the Netherlands.
On May 13 of the same year, he was included in the French national team's 30-man roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Griezmann was named in the squad for the 2016 UEFA European Football Championship hosted by France and also made his debut in the opening game of the tournament, a 2:1 win over Romania.
Griezmann was named to France's roster for the 2018 World Cup, scoring many of the game's penalty kicks and causing many goals from set pieces. He also helped France score a second point in the 61st minute against Uruguay, but he didn't celebrate after the goal, saying it was because Uruguay had many Atletico Madrid teammates in their squad. In the final against Croatia he played a free kick in the 18th minute, the opposing player Mario Mandzukic inadvertently top of the goal resulting in a goal, and then helped Croatia to kick in to tie the score of Perišić inadvertent handball in their own penalty area, Griezmann scored a penalty kick. In the end, France won the match and lifted the Hercules Cup once again, while Griezmann finished third in the Football Association's list of the tournament's best players, scoring a total of four goals.
In November 2022, Griezmann was called up by the France national soccer team to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, eventually finishing second with the team.
On September 30, 2024, Griezmann announced that he was hanging up his boots from the French national team.
