Fabienne Barthez is known as the "Bald God of Doors" because she is often seen with a bald head.

Barthez was born in Toulouse in Ligue 1. He made his debut for the club on September 21st, 1991, and joined Marseille in 1992, winning the league title and the UEFA Champions League in his first season with the club.

Barthez joined Monaco in 1995 and helped the club win the 1997 and 2000 league titles.

He joined Manchester United in the summer of 2000 for a transfer fee of 7.8 million pounds, and in his first season alone he had already won the 2001 Premier League title for United.

Manchester United agreed to loan Barthez to Marseille after the 2003-04 season. However, the loan was not officially completed until after January 1, 2004, due to FIFA regulations that require the loan to be made only during the transfer period. A month before the final week of the 2006 World Cup, Barthez and Marseille agreed to terminate their contracts.

On October 5, 2006, Barthez announced his retirement from Ligue 1, as he was due to sign a contract with his parent club Toulouse after the World Cup, but this did not materialize. On December 16, 2006, another Ligue 1 club, Nantes, in response to the departure of 10-year-long goalkeeper Landau, signed Barthez to a second half-year contract after the winter break to solve their goalkeeping problem; he left the club after half a season.
