According to the Korean Football Association (KFA) on Nov. 1, KFA President Chung Mong-kyu, men's soccer head coach Paulo Bento, women's national team coach Colin Today, Bell and others participated in a memorial service at the plaza in front of Seoul's City Hall for the victims of the stampede and expressed their condolences for those who tragically died in the accident.
Jung Mong-kyu, president of the Korean Football Association, said, "My grief is uncontrollable, and on behalf of the Korean soccer community, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims who are deeply saddened, and hope that those who were injured will also recover soon."
Paulo Bento said, "Really shocked, can't even believe the news of this accident, still saddened until now, hopefully we can bring comfort to the families of the victims, even if it's just a little bit."
Colin Bell said, "I offer my sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, who will live long in our memories. We pray for the well-being and health of everyone, including those who were injured."
On November 1, local time, Korea's Central Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters reported that the death toll from the trampling accident at the Reitai Hospital had risen to 156 as of 11:00 p.m. that day. One woman tragically passed away due to severe injuries. Among the dead were 101 women and 55 men. Another 151 people were injured, 40 of whom were treated at the hospital.
