Reinking started his career at his hometown Leicester City in 1976 and 2 years later he was in the team's starting lineup.He made a name for himself in the 1985-86 season when he kicked 40 goals in 42 games for Everton. He then signed for Barcelona of Catalonia and won the European Cup Winners' Cup for that team in 1989. He then returned to England on a scholarship to Margaret Hall College, Oxford, and spent three seasons at Tottenham Hotspur, during which time he scored 67 goals in 105 games and won the English FA Cup, before moving to the J-League in Japan to play for Nagoya Eight Whales. This was also the last team he played for in his career.
Reinkl made his England debut against Scotland in 1984 and won the Golden Boot at the 1986 World Cup.In 1990, he helped England reach the World Cup semi-finals. He made a total of 80 appearances for England, scoring 48 goals.
