After his retirement, Klinsmann raised his family in California and worked as a marketing planner for the Major League Soccer team Los Angeles Galaxy and did not coach any team.
On July 26, 2004, Klinsmann took over from Voller as manager of the German national soccer team. The decision was questioned by fans and critics, as at the time, Klinsmann had no experience in coaching any team.
In the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Klinsmann led the German team, which was not favored before the tournament, all the way through, beating Sweden (Note: the last time to beat Sweden was the first half of 1992), Argentina (the last time to beat Sweden was the second half of 1990) and other strong teams, and only lost to Italy in the quarterfinals of the match to win the championship of the tournament. However, he finally decided to leave his post along with Italy's champion coach Lippi, ending his two-year national team coaching career.
After the World Cup, Klinsmann was invited by a number of big clubs and other national teams in Europe and the United States to take over as manager, including Chelsea, England, the U.S. national team and Tottenham Hotspur. However, on December 11, 2007, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich announced that Klinsmann would take over from the departing Heathfield as coach at the end of the 2007-08 season. After Klinsmann's appointment, Bayern's performance was repetitive, never reaching the top of the league table, and successively exiting the German Cup and the UEFA Europa League, in which Klinsmann's position was in jeopardy after being technically knocked out by Barcelona in the UEFA Europa League round of eight; after losing 0-1 to Schalke 04 at home on April 26, 2009, the insufferable board of directors of Bayern sacked Klinsmann on April 27, with five rounds of the league still to be played.
In the final season of 2010, Klinsmann was appointed to the position of advisor to the Canadian soccer club Toronto. On July 29, 2011, emigrating to the United States, he accepted an appointment by the U.S. Soccer Federation to replace the sacked Bradley as head coach of the U.S. national team. Klinsmann was sacked by the U.S. Soccer Federation in November 2016 due to poor results and was replaced by Ivana.
On February 27, 2023, Klinsmann was announced as the head coach of the South Korean men's national soccer team, replacing Paulo Bento.
Jurgen Klinsmann took his team to the 2023 Asian Cup, where South Korea finished second in the group stage with only one win and two draws to qualify for the one-eighth final. South Korea tied Saudi Arabia 1-1 in extra time in the quarterfinals, and after another scoreless overtime, eliminated their opponents on penalties to advance to the quarterfinals to face Australia, again tying their opponents in extra time, and then rallying for a 2-1 win in extra time to advance to the quarterfinals, but finally exited the tournament in the semifinals with a 0-2 loss to Jordan.
On February 16, 2024, the Korean Football Association (KFA) announced the dismissal of Klinsmann.
