What are Van Bommel's honors?
Van Bommel made his debut for the national team in the 2000 World Cup qualifying match against Cyprus, but the Netherlands failed to qualify for the World Cup, and he missed the 2004 UEFA European Nations Cup due to an injury, so Van Bommel was able to qualify for a major tournament in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He played three matches for the Netherlands in that tournament, before losing out to Portugal in the last eight.
Van Bommel's father-in-law Van Marwijk took charge of the Dutch national team in the Netherlands after 2008. The Netherlands played well in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and reached the final. But in Euro 2012, the Netherlands lost three out of three in the first round and went out early, Van Marwijk resigned, and because Van Marwijk was his father-in-law, Van Bommel was blamed for a lot of things, and since then announced that he was bidding farewell to the Dutch national team and said: "The Dutch team is my favorite, and I don't want to leave, but taking into account the fact that I'm already 35 years old, it's time to leave the opportunity to the more talented young people. I don't want to leave. If the national team still need me in the future, I will not refuse."
