Robben is a Dutch former footballer who had a long career with Bundesliga club Bayern Munich, and lastly with Dutch Eredivisie side Groningen. He is a former captain of the Netherlands national team and one of the legendary Dutch stars in world soccer.
Robben made his name at Dutch Eredivisie club Groningen. Two years later, he signed for Dutch Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven, winning the Dutch Soccer Rookie of the Year Award, the Cruyff Award, and a Dutch League Championship during his playing career. Robben moved to English Premier League club Chelsea at the end of the 2004 season. Although his debut for Chelsea was postponed due to injury, he helped the team win two consecutive Premier League titles after returning to fitness, and in November 2005 became the Premier League Player of the Month. After three injury-plagued seasons in England, Robben moved to La Liga club Real Madrid for a transfer fee of around €35 million, but then quickly moved to Bundesliga club Bayern Munich in August 2009 for a fee of around €25 million, where he scored twice in his debut campaign.
Bayern won the Bundesliga title that season and his first season at Bayern earned him the honor of German Footballer of the Year. In the 2013 Champions League final, Robben scored the winning goal in the 89th minute to lead Bayern back to the top of Europe and was man of the match. Robben left Bundesliga club Bayern Munich at the end of the 2018-19 season. in July 2019, he announced his official retirement. Robben briefly announced his comeback in June 2020, signing a one-year contract with parent club Groningen, and then announcing his retirement in 2021 after playing with the team in the Dutch Eredivisie in the 2020/2021 season.
