Manchester United made a notable decision in the player transfer market this summer, selling Dutch midfielder Van Der Beek to La Liga side Girona for the low price of 500,000 euros. The move sparked much interest and discussion, after all, van der Beck joined United in the summer of 2020 for a whopping €39 million. However, in the following four years, he was not able to get a stable chance to play for United, and only made a total of 62 appearances for the Red Devils.
Nonetheless, it seems that Manchester United have not completely given up on the opportunity to make more revenue in the Van Der Beek transfer deal. According to the Manchester Evening News, United have included a floating bonus clause in the sale of Van Der Beek at a low price this summer. This clause means that United will be able to earn extra bonuses if van der Beck performs well for his new owners, Girona.
Surprisingly, the amount of bonuses in the Van Der Beek transfer deal was not £7.5 million as previously reported in the media, but a whopping £12.5 million. This figure undoubtedly allows United to see more financial rewards in the Van der Beck transfer. As a matter of fact, Van der Beck did show good form after joining Girona, and so far this season he has played 9 official matches, including 5 starts, and contributed 1 goal and 1 assist. This kind of performance undoubtedly brings more hope for Manchester United, and they might actually be able to pocket another considerable amount of money from the Van der Beck transfer deal.
For United, Van der Beck's departure may mean they need to find a new replacement in the midfield position. However, from a financial point of view, van der Beck's transfer deal has certainly brought back some money for United. This money could perhaps be used to bring in other players with more potential, or for other construction and development of the team. In any case, Manchester United needs to continue to show great strength and competitiveness in the coming matches in order to return the support and expectation of the fans.
