On October 7, Brussels was in a state of flux as EU Vice-President Schnase and UEFA President Ceferin put pen to paper to formalize the birth of the collaboration agreement.
This agreement is no small feat, it marks another joining of hands between the two parties after 2014 and 2018, which is not easy to look back on.
The core purpose of the agreement is to use the magic of soccer to spread the core ideas and approaches of Europe, to safeguard and strengthen the core principles and values of the European movement, to tell the story of European soccer's success and to promote the implementation of key European priorities such as climate change.
The Collaboration will work for the purity of sport and to combat match-fixing and corruption. It is also committed to supporting climate action and the green transition, as well as promoting healthy and active lifestyles for all. In the future, the EU and UEFA will work together to deepen cooperation on these themes at UEFA events, in particular at Euro 2024 and the Women's Euro 2025.
Long-term and in-depth partnership: The proposed partnership with UEFA will continue to deepen the long-standing and fruitful dialogue with Europe's leading sports organizations. The careful cooperation between the EU and UEFA will help the EU to achieve its policy objectives, including the promotion of inclusive, value-based forms of sport, the maintenance of good order in sports governance, the protection of the rights of minors, human rights and gender equality, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
