The overlap makes the competition particularly heated. Five countries - Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan - have submitted bids to host the tournament. FIFA's agreement with the Olympics stipulates that Asia will occupy 3.5 of the 16 places in the men's soccer tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The teams that finish in the top four at the U23 Asian Cup will have a chance to participate in the Olympics, with the top three advancing directly and the fourth place team playing a playoff against the fourth place team from the African zone.

From now on, the tradition of rotating hosting between the East and West Asian regions will be abolished. The association that wins the right to host the 2027 Asian Cup will automatically be awarded the right to host the U23 Asian Cup in odd-numbered sessions as a test tournament in the year leading up to the Asian Cup, while even-numbered sessions will be open to competition. Currently, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iran are competing for the right to host the 2027 Asian Cup, and if one of them is awarded the right to host the 2024 U23 Asian Cup, it will be highly likely that it will be able to host the 2026 tournament back-to-back.

The competition schedule drawn up by the AFC shows that the qualifying matches for the sixth U23 Asian Cup in 2024 are scheduled to take place from September 4 to 12, 2023; the final stage matches are tentatively scheduled for January 10 to 28, 2024. However, Qatar is competing with South Korea and Indonesia for the right to host the final stage of the 2023 Asian Cup, and if Qatar wins, the 2023 Asian Cup may be postponed to January 2024, resulting in the final stage of the sixth U23 Asian Cup being postponed to February or March 2024.
