After careful consideration and decision making, we are pleased to inform you that Li Wei Feng will be appointed as the head coach of the first team of Guangzhou City Football Club. At the same time, Zhao Junzhe will be transferred to the technical director and will no longer be the acting head coach of the first team.
Li Wei Feng, as a player with a brilliant soccer career, is also experienced in coaching the first team of the Chinese Super League. In the national team, he made a record 112 appearances and is the only male soccer player in China to have played in both the World Cup and the Olympics. After retiring, he took on several roles, including deputy general manager, team leader, and head of the coaching staff at Tianjin Tianhai Football Club, and in the 2019 season, he was tasked with taking over the reins of Tianjin Tianhai and successfully led the team to relegation. We expect the addition of Li Wei Feng to bring tactical innovation to the team and inspire a more tenacious fighting spirit.
We are deeply grateful for Zhao Junzhe's efforts and contributions during his time as acting head coach. At critical moments, he showed the sense of responsibility and commitment of a soccer player. He and Li Weifeng have played side by side and have built a deep understanding with each other as they co-captained the team in the 2004 Asian Cup. We believe that their partnership will bring new life to Guangzhou City.
Currently, Guangzhou City is in the critical moment of relegation, even though the road ahead is difficult and dangerous, we are firm in our beliefs and will never give up.
