The Road to Transfers

In 1999, Van Bommel joined Eindhoven and became the Dutch Footballer of the Year in 2001 and 2005, after winning the Dutch First Division three times. In the face of Manchester United, Real Madrid and other giants of the olive branch, he firmly chose to refuse.

Barcelona and the Champions League

: In '05, Van Bommel moved to Barcelona and scored twice in 24 games, winning not only the La Liga title, but also the 2006 UEFA Champions League.

In '06, Van Bommel was picked up by Bayern Munich, taking over from Oliver Kahn at the end of the season as the first non-German captain. However, in January '11, he was released from his contract with Bayern and moved to AC Milan in Serie A, where he helped the team win the title.

In 2012, at the age of 35, van Bommel returned to Dutch Eredivisie PSV Eindhoven, ending a one-year contract and his playing career.
