Jamie Vardy, a former rising soccer star born in Sydney, South Yorkshire, is now making a splash at Leicester City. He began his footballing career at the age of 16 at Sheffield Wednesday after going through a contract termination fiasco and moving on to Stourbridge Steel. After many years in the reserves, he attracted the attention of Crewe in 2007 with his outstanding performances under the guidance of Gary Marrow, who paid him a meager £30 a week. In 2010, coach Neil Aspin signed Vardy for a low fee of £15,000 to join Sharifax Town.Vardy made his debut for his new club on August 21 and helped his side to a 2-1 win with a goal. A year later, he showed strength with Fleetwood Town FC in the English Football Council National League, albeit for an undisclosed transfer fee.
In May 2012, Leicester City signed Vardy for £1 million, setting a new record transfer fee for an amateur player. A year later, he extended his contract until June 2015 and then again in 2014 until 2018.In 2016, Arsenal attempted to sign him for a £22 million release clause, but Vardy ultimately chose to stay at Leicester City and signed a new four-year contract that same year.
