Perisic joined Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in 2011, and under coach Jürgen Klopp's tactical system, he mostly appeared as a substitute. However, his performance was so brilliant that he was called the "Golden Substitute". In the match against Stuttgart, he shot a powerful right-footed shot from inside the penalty area into the corner of the net, which helped the team overtake the score by 4-3, and eventually drew the match by 4-4. In his first season, he helped the team win the league and cup double, and scored 9 goals in 42 appearances.
