Dietmar Hamann's club career has been a journey of ups and downs, from a young boy in the German town of Königsreiter to the fledgling wings of Wacker in Munich, where he began his soccer career in 1976 with his family's relocation to the Munich Wacker, and soon after joined German soccer's dominant youth team, Bayern Munich. In 1998, after 106 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern Munich, he joined Newcastle United of the English Premier League for a transfer fee of £5.5 million. The following year, he moved to Liverpool for a fee of £8 million, which marked another high point in his career.
However, that was only the beginning of his legacy, as Hamann briefly played for Bolton in 2006 before joining Manchester City as a free agent, where he played for three years. After a one-year break, he joined League One side Milton Keynes in the summer of 2010, not only as a player but also as a coach, and on February 3, 2011, Hamann moved to Championship side Leicester City, where he was given full responsibility as first team coach.
In terms of honors, Hamann won the 1994 and 1997 Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich, as well as the 1998 German Cup and the 1996 European Union Cup. At the peak of his career at Liverpool, he won the 2001 European Cup and the 2005 Champions League with the team.
