Starting out with a small German club, Christian Zieger joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in 1990 and quickly rose to prominence. He won the Bundesliga title for the first time in 1994, and went on to win the 1996 UEFA Nations Cup for the German national team, followed by a second Bundesliga title in 1997.
However, in 1997, Ziggy moved to Serie A powerhouse AC Milan, but the two-season adaptation did not go well. It was not until 1999 that AC Milan won the Serie A title with Ziggy's involvement, but Ziggy's contribution was not significant.
In the summer of 1999, Ziggy moved to the Premier League, joining Middlesbrough. His form picked up and he made 29 appearances in one season. However, Liverpool then extended an olive branch and Ziege ended up joining Liverpool after disputes with Middlesbrough over the transfer fiasco. At Liverpool, Ziege was inconsistent and despite contributing in the English League Cup, lost his starting place in the second half of the season.
In 2001, Ziggy moved to English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, initially as a starter, but with frequent injury problems, his appearances dwindled.
In 2004, Zieger returned to Germany, joining Borussia Mönchengladbach and staying with the club in a key position after his retirement.
As early as 1993, Ziegel has become the core player of the German national team, representing the national team to participate in many international competitions. 1996 European Cup of Nations, he led the team to win the championship, and the 2002 World Cup, helped the team to win the runner-up. 2004 European Cup of Nations, Ziegel formally hung up his boots.
