August 17 (IANS) India is extremely alarmed by the FIFA ban imposed on the Football Association and the country's Supreme Court has decided to review the case, the Times of India has revealed.
Looking back, in May this year, the Supreme Court of India announced the dissolution of the Federation and urgently appointed a three-member administrative panel to run the Federation. Subsequently, FIFA imposed a ban on the Federation on the grounds of "undue external interference", the first such ban by FIFA since the Federation's inception in 1937. The ban has resulted in a complete shutdown of all Indian teams, clubs and national teams in international competitions, and worse, India will be ineligible to host the U17 Women's World Cup, which will be launched in October.
While the U17 Women's World Cup may not be hosted in India, the Indian side is expected to see a turnaround when the Supreme Court releases the results of the review early Wednesday morning. The Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, revealed that there have been new developments in the case. Moreover, the administrative panel, which was previously assigned by the Supreme Court, has adjusted its attitude and agreed that an electoral panel comprising of representatives from the state football associations will be responsible for the elections, which will in turn lead to the formation of a 23-member executive committee.
