The leader, Ms. Shui Qingxia, shared her career as a player and coach in an interview with the New People's Evening News.
--First acquaintance with soccer
Shui Qingxia confessed: "At first, how could I think of joining soccer? It was always a bit thrilling for a woman to play soccer. I thought it was too wild. At first, we just played casually, but if we really wanted to be professional, how could we think about it? Perhaps, the unyielding strength in my heart, coupled with my good physical condition, made me finally be selected to join the Shanghai team. As the training progressed, I felt the charm of soccer more and more, and my self-confidence increased.
--Path of the Heart on the Court
Shui Qingxia recalls that at first she was a bit shy about playing soccer, which was seen as a more "wild" sport. When it rained, she was so muddy that people would avoid her when she went out. But after getting to know her teammates, her perspective gradually changed. As one of the younger players on the team, she was initially confined to the bench, but as her skills improved and she scored goals, the coaches gave her more chances, and her self-confidence rose.
--National team career
Talking about her career in the national team, Shui Qingxia said that she had entered the national team three times, but her position changed frequently. In the Shanghai team, she played as a striker, while in the national team, she could only play as a left defender because she entered the team late. She admitted that she didn't like playing as a defender, and felt a bit awkward, because defense is very different from offense, and she felt that she had a lot of potential that hadn't been brought into play.
--The tenacity of a "man of action".
Keisha Mizu revealed that she had broken her nose twice and underwent reconstructive surgery after breaking her leg that time in Japan. In addition, she has also ruptured the cruciate ligament in her knee. She believes that these are small trials and tribulations in life that one learns to overcome.
--Memories of the 1996 Olympics
Regarding the 1996 Olympics, Shui Qingxia said that it was the first time in her life that she reached the final of the championships, which was a profound feeling. However, due to injuries and cramps, she could not last until the end.
--2000 Olympic regrets
Shui Qingxia was nearly 35 years old at the 2000 Olympics. She said that was probably her last chance in the national team competition, but the team failed to make it out. She said she had given it her all and hoped to fulfill her wish. Although she played as a striker for Shanghai, she was initially a defender and then transitioned to a striker for the national team, but she felt very sorry that she was not able to play in the end.
--Transitioning into Coaching
After the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games, Shui Qingxia began to play soccer while obtaining her coaching certificate to prepare for her future transition. She believes that learning from a coaching perspective will enable her to think more clearly when playing soccer, and she has enjoyed coaching since she was a child, hoping to give care to others.
--2013 All-Conference Loss
Shui Qingxia said that the problems on the court are the responsibility of the coach, not the players. She believes that if you don't become a head coach, don't be one.
--Become the head coach of the national team
Talking about becoming the head coach of the national team, Shui Qingxia said she never said she must become the coach of the national team, but after a period of coaching career, she has such a dream. She believes that being a head coach requires bearing pressure and trying to dissolve it.
--Secret of Success
Shui Qingxia believes that the team's cohesion is the secret to success. She said that she and her teammates are like family, and there is less calculating as we all work towards a common goal. No one is happy when they hit a low point, but what matters is how to make changes. She encourages her players to find the spirit of defiance and the desire to win.
--Communicate with veteran team members
Shui Qingxia said that some of the veteran players told her that she had waited 16 years to get the title. She said she was deeply touched by what she heard.
--Communication with players
Shui Qingxia said that she has taken junior high and high school students, but most of them are 13 or 14 years old. She believes that she needs to give them proper guidance in all aspects and set an example in many things. At the same time, she needs to care more about them because the players may spend more time with her than they do with their parents.
