After leaving the Guangzhou team, Luo Guofu chose to return to his hometown of Brazil and joined Club America Mineiro. Talking about his current situation, Luo Guofu confessed:
"Life is going quite well at the moment. After the match against Vietnam, I had waited for two months for an offer from a Chinese club, but unfortunately did not receive it. During my time in the Chinese league, the moment I put on the Chinese jersey, I never thought about leaving. The main reason for choosing America Mineiro is that it will allow me to participate in more major tournaments, and competitive performance is my primary consideration."
Referring to the decision to take Chinese citizenship, Luo Guofu recalled:
"That decision took only 10 minutes. During the five years I spent in China, I deeply loved this country and it was a great honor for me to represent the national team."
"I am eager to play for the national team at my best. I train hard every day in the gym to stay in top competitive shape and only if I get a solid foothold in the Guangzhou team will I get a chance with the national team."
