Sun Guowen opened the scoring with a long-distance shot shortly after the start, while Yan Xianggong's goal widened the gap between the scores. However, Li Tixiang's goal was disallowed in the second half, and Dalian People finally won 2-0 against Guangzhou City.
As the match came to an end, Guangzhou City FC officials quickly issued a protest against the Chinese Super League Football Association (CSLFA), alleging that Dalian Ren's personnel adjustments during the match violated league regulations and requesting that the match be ruled a forfeit for Dalian Ren.

On June 8, 7:30 p.m., the Wuyuanhe Stadium in Haikou witnessed the 2nd round of the Chinese Super League between Dalian Ren and Guangzhou City.
Dalian made a substitution in the 67th minute of the match, with non-U23 player Wu Wei replacing Huang Jiahui, the only U23 player on the pitch. Then in the 69th minute, U23 players Wang Tenda and Zhao Jianbo came on as substitutes.
It is worth mentioning that Dalian Ren did not have any U23 players on the field from the time Huang Jiahui was replaced to the time Wang Tenda and Zhao Jianbo came on the field. According to Article 10.9 of the 2022 Chinese Football Association Super League Regulations, each team is required to keep at least one U23 player on the pitch, unless due to special circumstances such as injury or red card. Any violation of the regulations will be treated as a forfeit, and the FA Disciplinary Committee will also penalize the offending club according to the situation.
Before the match, the Football Association did not notify Dalian People's Club of the reduction and compensation policy for U23 players, therefore, we protested against Dalian People's failure to use U23 players in accordance with the regulations and formally requested the Football Association to rule Dalian People's forfeiture of the match in accordance with the regulations of the Chinese Super League.
