In the late afternoon of May 31st, China Southern Airlines flight CZ6794 successfully delivered 49 members of the Guangzhou City soccer team to Meilan International Airport in Haikou, marking the arrival of the 18 participating teams in the new Chinese Super League season, with the exception of the newly-promoted Dalian People's Team, the remaining 17 teams have arrived at their respective first stage of the tournament. Despite the fact that Guangzhou City had previously faced a "wage crisis", the club's director revealed that "the situation is expected to be revealed in the near future, and there is no possibility of the team withdrawing from the tournament."
The Guangzhou City team, which was scheduled to leave for Haikou on May 29, was unable to board the plane on time due to a delay in the nucleic acid test report. After completing the re-test and departing at 4:30pm on May 29th, the team arrived in Haikou at 5:32pm. This is an important milestone for the team, which has been plagued by salary arrears, and means that they managed to arrive at the venue before the start of the Chinese Super League.
It is reported that after Chongqing Two Rivers Athletic Team announced their withdrawal from the tournament, Guangzhou City players had also asked the club to pay part of their salary first, otherwise they would refuse to participate in the tournament. However, judging from the final situation, the team arrived at the tournament successfully. Reports indicate that a total of 49 people arrived in Haikou, including 32 players and a total of 17 coaches and club staff. The team was co-led by chairman Huang Shenghua and head coach Van Garst.
