Reports from the BBC, The Guardian, and other international media outlets have revealed that former U.S. national team star Wambach was arrested by U.S. police for drunk driving. After posting bail, she posted a sincere apology video on her personal social media Facebook page.
According to local time Saturday afternoon, patrol officers stopped Wambach's vehicle when he ran a red light in violation of traffic rules. After the vehicle was impounded and stopped, the officers noticed that Wambach was intoxicated. A Portland Police spokesperson revealed that Wambach was then taken to the nearest police station to undergo a series of alcohol content tests, all of which came back negative.
Wambach was then formally charged with driving under the influence, a minor offense. On Sunday, she was released after posting bail. In a statement, Portland Police noted that Wambach demonstrated a high level of cooperation in the handling of the incident.
