BEIJING, May 10 - In a recent interview, Xu Xin commented on the Chinese football team's disastrous 1-3 defeat against Vietnam in the Round of 12 tournament.
He believes that a rematch with Vietnam would be a good idea and confidently predicts that his performance will be even better, however, even then, there is no guarantee of a win over his opponents.
Xu Xin further elaborated, "There is no need to elaborate on how fast Vietnam has risen in recent years. In the second match against them, we carried a heavy psychological burden. Vietnam seemed to be holding their breath to beat us, and even if they failed to do so, they were not too upset.
Before the match, everyone was unanimous that we must not lose and must not make any mistakes. However, in reality, our strength did not reach the level of certain victory over our opponents, in which case the pressure on everyone multiplied, which in turn affected our performance even more.
If we can play Vietnam again, I believe we will improve, but victory is not easy to come by. Vietnam is not an easy team to fool, they are technically and tactically excellent, and their mentality is well adjusted. As long as they can give full play to their strengths, even if they lose, it doesn't matter.
