Historically, China's men's soccer team has fallen into the spotlight of fans' hot debates due to its low performance. Coupled with the players repeatedly caught in the negative news, the outside world has many questions about their professionalism. However, there are also players who have earned respect for their dedication. Recently, in an exclusive interview with Brazilian media, current international footballer, China's
national soccer team
Naturalized player Luo Guofu revealed that he had given up alcohol for a whole year to stay in top form, an exemplary move.
Lokok Fu recalled that he was playing for Catarinense in Brazil when he decided to go into seclusion and take a vow to stop drinking after failing to win 15 consecutive matches the previous season. It was a decision that ultimately helped him to start his career on the right foot.
"I made a promise: no alcohol for a year, and at that time I was only focused on soccer. Not only did I give up wine, I even gave up beer. During my year at Catarinense, I did very well. I scored 15 goals throughout the season and unfortunately the team ended up losing the cup final." Lo Kok Fu said.
However, quitting drinking doesn't mean that Lowe Kok Fu thinks alcohol is harmful. He admits that giving up alcohol is not easy: "Beer is a good thing, and there's no harm in drinking it in moderation, but it does have to be done in moderation. I swore off alcohol, but then I went to São Paulo and I never mentioned it because it didn't sound cool, but it was. Giving up alcohol made me feel more relaxed and helped me lose weight."
Alcohol is theoretically a "no-no" for professional players, and the history of soccer is littered with cases of careers ruined by alcoholism. Nevertheless, most players are happy to have a few drinks in their leisure time. However, there are very few like Luo Guofu who have voluntarily quit drinking. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why he has been able to maintain his high level of performance for so long.
