On May 2, China's women's soccer legend Liu Ailing celebrated her 55th birthday. On such a special day, the official microblog of the Asian Cup also sent a message to offer warm blessings to this "resounding rose".
As a stalwart of China's women's soccer team, Liu Ailing has achieved numerous honors in her career. One of the most memorable times was when she faced Norway in the 1999 World Cup semi-final, and with a wonderful world wave, she helped our women's soccer team to win 5-0 and then advance to the final.
Here's what the official blog of the Asia Cup has to say in honor of Aileen Lau's 55th birthday:
Liu Ailing, as the core midfielder of the "Golden Generation" of China's women's soccer team, has served on the national team for fifteen years, creating one splendor after another with the legendary "Clanging Roses".
She was not only the mainstay of our women's soccer team that finished second in the World Cup and the Olympics, but also won the gold medal in women's soccer at the Asian Games three times and won the Women's Asian Cup six times!
In the International Federation of Soccer History and Statistics' selection of the best women's soccer team of the 20th century, Liu Ailing was the only Chinese women's soccer player to be selected.
We would like to wish Aileen Liu a very happy birthday!
